FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

D.O.A STUDIOS HAVE REACHED THE TEN YEAR MILESTONE

And to celebrate they are having an open day this Sunday 27th October.

D.O.A Studios opened its doors to the public on Monday 20th October 2003. After the unfortunate events that lead to the closure of Ionian Studios, local musicians Andy Dawson and Don McColl, decided to take the reigns and keep a service to Bolton music alive.

Now run by Andy with his partner Claire Barnett, D.O.A has been behind the scenes of many musical events and organisations in Bolton, some sadly now defunct and others going strong.

Fond memories include supplying sound for the Bolton Music Collective’s Bolton Music Showcases, the now legendary music nights at Number 15 and providing a home to Inaudible Magazine and Bolton Music Radio. Currently, D.O.A is proud to help out with the Rock IT! events, A Night for Jennifer, and gigs at the Dog and Partridge including the annual Dogstock and Hushed Puppies festivals.

Having been around for a decade, Claire feels it would be remiss not to celebrate. She said “We’re really grateful to the Bolton music community for sticking with us and helping to make D.O.A what it is. I’m really proud of what Andy has achieved here and couldn’t let the anniversary go by without acknowledgement. It also gives us the opportunity to say thanks to our existing bands and to make new friends.”

The event will be fully catered, with other activities including an exhibition of Nik Bryant’s photography, a jam room, acoustic performances, and an old-school X-box tournament to truly re-live 2003!

The open day will run from 11am to 10pm on Sunday 27th October and everyone is invited, whether interested in band rehearsals, P.A.s, music workshops or just listening to awesome local music with a free beer and buffet.

Andy would like to leave the last words to his friend and former colleague at D.O.A:

We’ve lost jobs, friends and families and still pulled through to survive.” Chris Evans (excerpt from ‘Search for the Big Nineteen’ The Chris Evans Collective)

D.O.A’s rehearsal rooms at Wordsworth Trading Estate in Halliwell provide a comfortable community atmosphere for any and all musicians, with rooms available to book by the hour or on a monthly basis. Recognising the traditionally precarious finances of musicians, D.O.A price match on all services offered, so they can safely say they are the cheapest rehearsal rooms in the area. Price matching available on like-for-like services quoted by local businesses. At least 20% discount on sound services for Charities and Not-for-profit-organisations. All visitors get free tea and coffee, with snacks and cold drinks available to purchase too. Parking available on site and storage available for hire. As well as providing P.A. equipment, sound engineering and rehearsal rooms, D.O.A is home to DNA Workshops which provides vocal, guitar, drum, bass and harmonica tuition and bespoke music workshops for everyone at every level, for fun, for training and team-building and for educational purposes.

Bloggosphere, here we come.

So this is new for D.O.A Studios.

We’re not sure how this blog is going to unfold. It could go in one of many directions from; what’s happening at the studio or an up to date gig guide review type situational nonsense or even an upto the minute deluge of what cover songs are getting on our tits. Only the future has the answers. Let’s read on.

It will definitely be a journey into the as yet unrecorded life of a rehearsal studio and the people / entities / egos / gods / bass players. who take solace within its humble walls.

So, believe it or not, you lucky people have had the services of D.O.A Studios available to you for almost ten years. TEN. Thats a 1 followed by a 0.

In this time these walls have seen lots of bands, live events, recording sessions, photography sessions (which some of us ended up int’ buff), pilots for tv shows, a radio station (which involved high viz jackets, childrens accordions and AA roadmaps on occasion) , a music magazine, teaching sessions and workshops, overnight sessions and we have provided PA systems and equipment for more events than we can remember.

We are here to help you in any way we can. If this is news to you and you need any information about our services check out the website on http://www.doastudios.com or call us for a chat on 01204 844 333.

Ten years!
